Recipe by: Nicolas Aparicio

Indulge in the rich flavors of Spain with our Chistorra Skewers Bocadillo recipe, a delightful fusion of traditional Spanish ingredients simply combined to create a versatile dish that’s good for any occasion. The blend of smoky Chistorra sausages, vibrant red and green peppers, and tangy blue cheese embodies the essence of Spanish cuisine, transporting your taste buds straight to the streets of Spain.

Chistorra, a beloved Spanish sausage from the Basque Country known for its bold and robust flavors, takes center stage in this recipe. Sourced from the heart of Spanish culinary traditions, our Despaña Brand Chistorra brings depth to each bite. Paired with the sweetness of onions and the crunch of peppers, this dish encapsulates the simple essence of Spanish gastronomy, celebrating the country's dedication to authentic ingredients.

As you assemble the skewers, you might even feel like you are walking through the bustling markets of Spain, where fresh produce is always celebrated. These skewers are both visually stunning, but also pack wonderful flavor in each bite. Their versatile nature makes them equally fitting for a casual snack, a light lunch, or elegantly sliced finger food for a gathering.

The addition of Spanish blue cheese brings a touch of luxury, complementing the savory notes of the Chistorra while harmonizing with the pepper's natural sweetness. The recipe is capped off by adding the contents of this skewer to a traditional baguette to form a one of a kind bocadillo.

Buen provecho!

Ingredients

  • 1 Pack Despaña Chistorra
  • 1/2 Onion
  • 1 Red Pepper
  • 1 Green Pepper
  • Wooden Skewers
  • Baguette
  • Spanish Olive Oil
  • Spanish Blue Cheese

Directions

1. Prep:

  • Cut the Chistorra into 1.2 inch lengths.
  • Chop the onion into big pieces.
  • Chop the red and green peppers into big pieces.
  • Cut the baguette bread down the middle into large slices.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.

2. Assembling Skewers:

  • Take a wooden skewer and start by threading a piece of Chistorra sausage onto it.
  • Follow with a piece of onion, then a piece of red pepper, a piece of Chistorra, a piece of green pepper, and finish with another piece of Chistorra.
  • Repeat this process for the remaining skewers.
  • Gently remove the wooden sticks and arrange skewers neatly on the cheesy baguette slices.

   3. Cooking the Skewers:

  • In a high-heat pan, add a drizzle of olive oil.
  • Once the oil is hot, carefully place the assembled skewers in the pan.
  • Cook the skewers until the Chistorra is golden brown on all sides. This should take about 3-4 minutes per side. Adjust the cooking time as needed.

   4. Baking the Baguette:

  • On a baking tray, arrange the baguette slices and sprinkle blue cheese bites on top.
  • Drizzle a little olive oil over the bread slices.
  • Place the cooked Chistorra skewers on the same tray.
  • Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for about 6 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

   5. Serving:

  • Once the baguette slices are toasted and the cheese is melted, remove the tray from the oven.
  • Remove the contents of the skewer carefully on top of the melted cheese baguettes. Compress into a sandwich.
  • You can cut the baguette slices in half diagonally to create smaller pieces.

Note: Cooking times may vary, so keep an eye on the skewers and bread to ensure they are cooked to your desired level of crispiness and doneness.

Thin Spanish-Style Sausage, typical of the regions of Navarra, Aragon and the Basque Country. Despaña Brand Chistorra is made with pork, Pimentón De La Vera picante, and a blend of spices which gives it a complex flavor profile. It has a natural skin casing and is a bit spicier than our traditional sausage due to its higher concentration of pimentón.

It's absolutely perfect for grilling and adding to sandwiches. We also love it with egg and potato dishes like "huevos rotos con chistorra."
